Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) Human resource management lecturer Bright Limani has advised company managers in the country to seek advice from their Human Resource (HR) departments on people management issues to avoid lawsuit risks.
His recommendation comes after a recent survey of 120 HR practitioners revealed that only 17 percent stated that their managers heed their advice, while 40 percent disclosed that they are not consulted.
The survey further indicated that at least 43 percent stated that they are sometimes consulted.
“From the findings, it is clear that managers do not take advice from their HR departments on people management issues.
“This is sad, as it means managers continue to make avoidable mistakes that can land their entities in lawsuits,” said Limani.
To avoid this, Limani recommended that managers and business leaders should always seek advice and listen to guidance from their HR departments on labor issues.
