In a disturbing trend, several high-profile Malawian celebrities have had their social media accounts hacked, highlighting the growing threat of cybercrime in the country.
The latest victim is musician Nepman, whose Facebook page with 355k followers was compromised while he was in America.
Nepman’s experience serves as a warning to other celebrities and individuals with large online followings.

He revealed that he lost access to his page on Saturday afternoon, initially believing it to be a minor technical issue.
However, his concern turned to alarm when an explicit photo was posted on his page without his consent.
This incident follows similar hacks on the Facebook pages of comedian Tannah (Mr. Broken English), Artst Ishmael Afick Katawala and musician and producer Stich Fray.
While they were able to recover their accounts, Nepman’s situation remains unresolved.
Nepman has warned his fans to disregard any posts on his compromised account and has announced plans to create a new page.
The rise in cybercrime targeting Malawian celebrities underscores the need for increased vigilance and security measures to protect online accounts.
Cybersecurity experts emphasize the importance of using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and regularly monitoring account activity to prevent hacking.
