Tributes are pouring in for former Malawi National Netball team coach Griffin Zagaro Saenda, who died Thursday morning at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre aged 68.
Saenda was hospitalised last week Thursday after collapsing at his home in Chimwankhunda Township in Blantyre. Minister of Sports Ulemu Msungama said Saenda was one of the best coaches for the Malawi Queens and made great contributions to the country’s netball. “We cannot talk about netball in Malawi without mentioning late coach Saenda’s name.”The Netball fraternity and indeed the whole country will miss his contributions,” said Msungama.
Australian based Mwai Kumwenda described his death as a “tremendous loss” to the netball fraternity.”A huge sense of loss that I feel .To know he is no more is definitely a hard hit for the country .A tremendous loss. A true legend – may your soul rest in peace coach Mr Griffin Saenda,” Kumwenda posted on her official Facebook page.General Secretary for the Malawi
Netball Association of Malawi, Carol Bapu, said the association was equally shocked to learn the demise of the former Malawi Queens coach.Saenda won numerous trophies both at club, national and international level. Saenda coached top clubs including Kukoma Diamonds and First Choice Tigresses, formerly Admarc Tigresses. Burial arrangements are yet to be announced
