Mafco booted from Castel Cup, lose to Leyman Panthers 5-4 on penalty shootout

TNM Super League side Mafco FC have been booted out of the Castel Challenge Cup following a 5-4 loss to Chipiku Central Region Football Association (CRFA) League side, Leyman Panthers FC in a match played at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday afternoon.

Joseph Mbewe put Mafco in front with a beautiful header from a Bernad Chimaimba’s cross in the 26th minute but the home side equalized through Noel Mbewe from a free-kick just a minute before half time.

In the second half, both sides tried their best to find the back of the net but it still ended a 1-all in the regulation time.



In the shootout, Panthers goalkeeper Owen M’bale saved Aubrey Maloya’s penalty kick to take his side into the round of 32 of the competition.

In other matches played on Sunday, Mighty Tigers thumped Charcoal FC 4 nil at Mpira Stadium as Moyale Barracks smashed Embangweni United 5-nil at Mzuzu Stadium.

The match between Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos and Challengers FC ended 3-nil in favour of Dynamos.
