Malawi national women’s football team ‘Scorchers’ have won their second game at the on-going HollywoodBets Cosafa Women’s Championship, beating eSwathin 8-0 at Dobsonville Stadium in South Africa on Saturday afternoon.
Sabina Thom opened the scoring for Malawi with a simple header just 6 minutes from kick-off to give the Scorchers a deserving lead.
Thom completed her brace in the 33rd minute after a good exchange of passes with Temwa Chawinga.
Scorchers got their third goal some seconds before half time through Carolyn Mathyola who headed in a Madyina Ngulube’s corner-kick.
Rose Kabzere scored the fourth goal for Scorchers just seven minutes in the second half with a powerful shot on the edge of the box.
Temwa Chawinga registered her name on the scoresheet in the 52 minute before she scored her second goal 11 minutes later after receiving a good pass from Kabzere.
Chawinga completed her second hat-trick in the tournament in the 75th minute with a cool finish to end the match at 8-nil.
The win means that Scorchers are leading Group A with 6 points from 2 games and they have qualified to the sami-finals which will be played next Friday.
Scorchers will however play their last Group A match against Madagascar on Monday.
The team previously defeated the hosts Banyana Banyana 4-3 in an opening match played at Lucas Moripe stadium.
Themwa Chawinga, younger sister to PSG forward Tabitha Tabitha Chawinga, is the current leading scorer in the tournament having scored 7 goals so far.
