Police in Chiradzulu are keeping in custody a 24-year-old man, Chisomo Bulahim, for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, Triza Umali, 26, after catching her with another man.
According to the district’s Police Spokesperson, Cosmas Kagulo, the incident occurred on Saturday at Kanje Trading Center, in a beer-drinking joint where the deceased was working as a sex worker.
“On the said night, the deceased was seen drinking with other patrons, which reportedly angered the suspect.
“He called her outside the bar, where a quarrel ensued. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly stabbed Ms. Umali in the left side of her chest with a knife before fleeing the scene,” said Kagulo.
He added that Umali was rushed to Nguludi Mission Hospital, where she died while receiving treatment.
“Following an intensive investigation, police arrested the suspect. During questioning, Bulahim admitted to using a knife he retrieved from his house after hearing rumors that his girlfriend was with other men at the bar,” Kagulo added.
