Police in Mangochi are keeping in custody a 27-year-old Lucy Patrick, for allegedly scalding Amida Jafali with hot water.
The incident happened at Mgundaphiri Village, Traditional Authority ( TA) Mponda in the district.
According to Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer ( PRO), Amina Tepani Daudi,the two had a fight as Amida alleged that Lucy was spreading rumours that she was into prostitution with her husband.
Daudi disclosed that the two were once close friends and stayed together, but parted ways after they accused each other of gossiping.
The police publicist said that one day, the two started fighting and in the heat of the fight, the suspect took a pot of hot water straight from the fire and splashed on Amida’s chest.
“The victim was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital and later referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre for further medical treatment after sustaining severe burns,” said Daudi.
Meanwhile, Lucy has been charged with acts intended to cause grievous harm and she will appear before court soon after completion of paperwork.
