Maranatha academy girls students donate to cyclone Freddy victims in Blantyre

By Staff Reporter

As more stakeholders continue to give support towards those affected by cyclone Freddy, Maranatha Academy girls students have emulated the same by supporting displaced people being sheltered at Nkolokoti camps in Blantyre.

The students have donated relief items worth K2 million to over 40 families.

In an interview, one of the students Atikonda Nchingula said some of the items donated include, beans, sugar, ma flour ,and soap.

According to Nchingula as students they were compelled to render their support after following reports of many challenges facing those that have been affected by Cyclone Freddy.

“As Maranatha girls boarding school we are based in Machinjiri and that is why we also chose to support those in our neighbourhood, who are closer to the school, “said Nchingula.

One of the beneficiaries James Kaonje hailed the girls for their kind gesture.

Maranatha Academy Managing Director, Ernest Kaonga said they plan to reach other affected areas such as Chikwawa and Phalombe.

“We thought it wise to start with Machinjiri which is in our neighbourhood before reaching other areas,” said Kaonga.
