The country’s top private school Maranatha Academy has announced that it will on Friday present K1million to Alinafe Chulu, a standard 8 girl from Playdor Private school in Blantyre who scored the highest in this year’s Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE).
Speaking to local media,the school managing director Ernest Kaonga said Alinafe will be awarded at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe during Maranatha Heroes party where 13 other outstanding students in the 2023 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examination will be awarded.
“As Maranatha Academy, we feel in promoting the girl child education and having seen that this year its a female student who was top in PSLCE we said why cant we encourage her with an award.
“So we are presenting cash amounting to K1 million to her as a token of appreciation and encouraging her to work more extra harder. We know that this award will also enhance competition among learners in std 8 in the country,” said Kaonga.
According to Kaonga,during the ceremony the Academy will recognize and award students from both public and private secondary schools who scored six to nine points in the MSCE exams.
He said Vitumbiko Kaunda, from Mtendere secondary school will receive K1 million for scoring six points while Arnold Nyasulu from Robert Laws Secondary School will also be awarded for scoring seven points.
“Praise Kabaghe and Hastings Kumwenda from Maranatha Boys Academy will be awarded for scoring 8 points each.
“The school will also recognize nine girls from public and private institutions for attaining nine points,”he said.
Alinafe,was announced the most outstanding learner of the 2022/2023 PSLCE examination after scoring an aggregate of 449 marks.
The girl who aspires to become a doctor, is also the only female learner on the top 10 list released by the ministry of education through Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB).
