Blantyre, Malawi – In a move aimed at bolstering the opposition Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) operations, former regional governor for the south Charles Mchacha has been appointed Director of Operations.
The appointment, effective July 12, was made by party president Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, exercising his powers under Article 10 Section 8 of the DPP constitution.
According to a letter signed by administrative secretary Francis Mphepo, Mchacha’s new role will see him overseeing the party’s day-to-day operations, strategizing, and coordinating activities to strengthen the DPP’s presence nationwide.
Mchacha, a seasoned politician and loyal party member, brings a wealth of experience to his new position.
His appointment is seen as a strategic move to revitalize the party’s structures and prepare for future elections.
The DPP has been working to reorganize and revamp its leadership since its defeat in the 2020 presidential polls.
Mchacha’s appointment is part of this effort, aimed at reinvigorating the party’s grassroots support and bolstering its chances in upcoming elections.
As Director of Operations, Mchacha will work closely with the party’s National Governing Council (NGC) and other senior leaders to implement strategies and programs aimed at consolidating the party’s base and expanding its reach.
Mchacha’s appointment has been welcomed by party supporters, who see him as a dedicated and capable leader.
His experience in regional politics and grassroots mobilization is expected to be a significant asset in his new role.
The DPP has been working to rebuild its structures and regain momentum after a tumultuous period following the 2020 elections.
With Mchacha at the helm of operations, the party is poised to regain its footing and mount a strong challenge in future polls.
As the political landscape in Malawi continues to evolve, the DPP’s strategic move in appointing Mchacha as Director of Operations is a clear indication of the party’s determination to reclaim its position as a major force in the country’s politics.
