Nkhata Bay, Malawi– Malawi Congress Party (MCP) heavyweights, including Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara and Homeland Security Minister Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, stormed Nkhata Bay South on Sunday, rallying support for President Lazarus Chakwera’s administration ahead of the 2025 elections. The rally, held at Kachere Ground, underscored MCP’s push to consolidate its stronghold in the Northern Region .

Gotani Hara, MCP’s First Vice President, praised Ng’oma for his development track record in the constituency, citing ongoing upgrades to the M5 road and agricultural initiatives ensuring fertilizer access for farmers . “MCP delivers development, not empty promises,” she declared, urging voters to back Chakwera’s re-election bid.

Ng’oma, the area’s MP, spotlighted local projects like piped water systems and the Kande Bridge, funded through increased Community Development Funds under Chakwera’s government . He donated MK100,000 to small-scale entrepreneurs, symbolizing the party’s commitment to grassroots economic empowerment .

Reverend Mahau Manda of Ministers’ Network International endorsed Chakwera’s leadership, calling the rally a “testament to MCP’s unity and vision” . The event, attended by traditional leaders and thousands of supporters, featured cultural performances and netball matches, amplifying the party’s outreach .

Analysts note MCP’s strategic focus on Nkhata Bay—a historical MCP stronghold—to counter opposition inroads. With Ng’oma and Gotani Hara jointly campaigning, the party aims to replicate its 2020 Northern sweep .
