The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has extended its congratulations to the winners of the recent German elections, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU). Chalo Mvula, MCP’s Deputy Director of International Affairs, took to social media to express his delight at the victory of the two sister parties.
In his post, Mvula wrote, “Congratulations to Malawi Congress Party sister parties in Germany, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU), for winning the German Election, with Friedrich Merz set to become the new German Chancellor. Looking forward to stronger ties with our MCP and a great working relationship. #internationalrelations.”

The CDU/CSU alliance, known as the Union, emerged victorious in the tightly contested German elections, paving the way for Friedrich Merz to assume the role of Chancellor. The MCP, which shares a centre-right political ideology with the CDU and CSU, has long maintained strong international connections with like-minded parties across the globe.
Mvula’s message underscores the MCP’s commitment to fostering international relations and strengthening ties with its global partners. The party has consistently emphasized the importance of collaboration and mutual support among centre-right political movements, particularly in addressing shared challenges and promoting democratic values.
As Germany prepares for a new political era under Merz’s leadership, the MCP looks forward to deepening its partnership with the CDU and CSU, aiming to enhance cooperation on issues of mutual interest and strengthen the bond between Malawi and Germany.
