Lloyd Njaliwa sent Mighty Wanderers to a 1-0 defeat to Moyale Barracks in the Airtel Top 8 first leg quarter-final match that took place on Sunday at Kamuzu stadium in Blantyre.

Njaliwa scored the only goal of the game in the 7th minute in the second half to give the Mzuzu based soldiers a 1-nil away lead.

Moyale dominated possession in the first half but Wanderers goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa was equal to the task making sure that the visitors should not take an early lead by producing fantastic saves.

In the second half, Wanderers were an improved side but a blunder by Chipuwa in the 53nd minute gifted Njaliwa the most important away goal.

Wanderers tried their best to get an equaliser but Vitumbiko Kumwenda, Yamikani Chester and Vincent Nyanguru failed to capitalize on their chances.

Coach Bob Mpinganjira made some substitutions in the second half bringing in fresh legs of Rafick Namwera and Mischeck Botomani for Felix Zulu and Wisdom Mpinganjira but still the Lali Lubani boys failed to get the much needed equaliser.

After the game, Moyale’s Innocent Botomani was voted man of the match and received K50,000 and a trophy from Airtel.

The two sides are expected to meet again in the second leg on November 20, at Mzuzu stadium.
