MISA Malawi says it is deeply saddened and shocked with the sudden death of journalist Nomsa Mkandawire who was working with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) South Sudan as a Communication and Innovations Analyst
Reports indicate that Mkandawire died on Saturday, May 6, 2023, after a short illness.
Mkandawire worked for the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) as a reporter, editor and producer between 2004 and 2012 before joining Save the Children International as Campaigns and Communications Specialist.
Later, Nomsa joined United Nations in Malawi as a Communications Officer for Spotlight Initiative. She joined UNDP South Sudan in 2022.
According to a statement signed by MISA Chairperson Golden Matonga, Mkandawire will be remembered as a dedicated and ambitious communications professional who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the vulnerable, more especially rural women.
“Our condolences go to the Mkandawire and Taulo families, colleagues at the UNDP and the media fraternity.” reads the statement in part.
The death of Nomsa Mkandawire Taulo comes on a day when MISA Malawi was holding an award ceremony in Lilongwe as one way of commemorating the World Press Freedom Day
