Police at Mitundu in Lilongwe on December 31, 2024 recovered a CZ P-09 pistol from unknown criminals who were planning to commit a crime at Mkwezalamba Village in Traditional Authority(T/A) Chiseka in the district.
According to Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Hastings Chigalu,the police officers who were on duty at Mitundu Police Unit, received a tip-off from well wishers that suspected criminals had assembled at a certain place for suspicious illegal motives.
Therefore, Police arrival at the scene by the law enforcers after making a swift follow-up, prompted the suspected gangs to throw down a plastic bag that contained the weapon, and fled the scene.
The weapon which had no ammunition, will be sent to Firearms and Ballistics department for analysis.
Meanwhile, police in the district commends the cordial working relationship that exists between it and members of the community, evidenced in the sharing of tip-offs that have resulted in the recovery of valuable stolen property and subsequent arrests of criminal suspects.
