MP Mkaka says construction of the MK300 Mn  Chigodi Health Centre on the right pace

By Linda Kwanjana

The Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Mpenu Elsenhower Mduwa Mkaka has hailed President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for the development projects under implementation in his constituency.

Speaking in an exclusive interview , Mkaka who is also a former Secretary General for the Malawi Congress Party gave an example of the K300Million Chigodi health centre project currently underway in his constituency.

The former SG said the starting point should be the President’s vision saying the President wants health facilities every five kilometers.

Mlaka and President Chakwera

“Now in my constituency,  people have been going to Kamphata health center. So the next Health Center was at the honorable Ching’oma  constituency, another one was at Diamphwi, a boundary with Dedza, and you can see that there was a gap. There was some shortage of health services making people to travel long distances. And hence, as a Member of Parliament for the area, I needed to facilitate implementation of such a project. The state president is commended for this vision,” he said.

Mkaka added that Malawi is lucky to have a president like Chakwera who is doing everything possible just to be on the ground.

“All he is doing is to make sure that he does things on the ground, and people with eyes will see that the President is doing something, and the President is doing things through us, his members of parliament. So yes, like what I said in Parliament, when the President listed down things that he’s done over the past five years, so many things that he didn’t say, like, the things that are happening in my constituency, this health center, was not included in that State Of the Nation Address (SONA),” he said.

Mkaka challenged those punching holes into Chakwera’s SONA to shut up.

“So whilst people tried to punch holes to find fault with the President’s statement, the truth is that the President has done much more than he listed down,” he said.

Mkaka further said that there is much more that the President has done, and he must be commended for that.

“So yes, the message is simple, the President is doing a lot. He has done a lot, despite the challenging environment in which he has operated since he took over the reins of power,” he summer up.

The former SG says this facility will benefit 30, 000 people from his constituency.
