Celebrated TV personality and once darling of the nation,former Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Television presenter and producer Geoffrey Kapusa has been laid to rest in his home district of Zomba on Thursday afternoon
Kapusa died at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital(QECH) in Blantyre on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
Thousands of people came to escort Mr Splash on his final journey at Mkandawire Village ,in Malosa Zomba.
Earlier on the Media fraternity through MISA Malawi released a statement paying tribute to the talented Kapusa whose name will always be remembered as far as TV is concerned in Malawi.
In a statement, MISA Malawi Chairperson Golden Matonga said Kapusa will be greatly missed by colleagues in the fraternity and the nation at large
“He was perhaps the first television celebrity in Malawi. A whole generation of Malawians will feel a big loss; a huge part of their history has left. Whole families will always remember the moments they shared in their living room to watch Mr Splash, as Kapusa was fondly known, dazzle them,” reads part of the statement.
It adds :”Our heartfelt condolences go to the Kapusa family, colleagues at MBC, Mibawa and Times and the entire media fraternity.”
Joining the then Television Malawi (TVM – now MBC TV) in 1997, Kapusa was one of pioneer television personalities in Malawi and he was one of the most prominent television broadcasters of his generation..
Kapusa had stints with Mibawa Television and Times Television.
He was actively involved in advocacy for positive living among people living with HIV.
As a member of Malawi National Association of the Deaf (MANAD) advocacy committee, Kapusa advocated for the right to information/communication through sign language.
