The commander in chief of Citizen Tranformation Movement CFT, Timothy Mtambo on Sunday afternoon took time to donate assorted items to the victims of the Cyclone Freddy disaster . Mtambo delivered the items in his capacity as the patron of the Charity League of Transformation Foundation.
The items were donated to Cyclone survivors seeking shelter at Active Youth Initiative For Social Enhancement (AYISE) Resource Center in Blantyre. Present at the ceremony was the Ward Councillor for Bangwe Mtandizi area, Jomo Osman.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mtambo said the League of Transformation Foundation, are much concerned with the occurrence of the Tropical Cyclone Freddy that hit the Southern part of Malawi on Sunday March 12, 2023. causing deaths, injuries and loss of property. He said the charity wanted to cheer up our fellow beloved countrymen.
On the response after the cyclone disaster Mtambo thanked Malawians, the donors and other well-wishers who have been swift with their response “We are very thankful to the State President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and the entire Government of Malawi, organisations, companies, churches, mosques, financial institutions, neighbouring countries, development partners and artists for all efforts channelled towards the welfare of the Tropical Cyclone Freddy victims”
Mtambo also used the event to appeal to the entire humanity to take care of the living space. Let us not just be thinking of money and today. Let us also think of our life and future. Let us plant trees in both new and bared places. Deforestation is a mother cause of natural disasters.” He said.
Shedding more light on the Charity organisation League of Transformation Foundation, Mtambo said The charity wants to touch lives , leaving no one behind with a vision to Transform communities in which people are free from poverty, have access to basic social services and lead a dignified life within a sustainable friendly environment. “We want to implement and innovate sustainable development model that addresses existential challenge of poverty and inequalities through sustainable rural development, wealth creation, provision of basic social services and enhance access to livelihood resources” Sai Mtambo.
He said the event was one example of what the charity intends to be doing with the aim of Socio-economic and environmental transformation for sustainable human and natural resources development in Malawi. Secondly, The Charity will enhance access of rural population to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation. Lastly, the Foundation will build the resilience of rural communities to cope with and recover from natural disasters and effects of climate change. Improving food security and livelihood
On his part Jomo Osman thank Mtambo and the League of Transformation foundation charity for donating to the victims of Cyclone Freddy saying this is the spirit that will make Malawi a great nation.
