Engineer Dr. Matthew Mtumbuka has declared his intention to contest for the presidency of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) at the party’s upcoming convention, scheduled for November this year.

Addressing a press conference at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Mtumbuka outlined his vision for transforming Malawi into a prosperous nation.

“I am committed to ensuring that our country has access to quality healthcare services, food security, and that our natural resources, including agriculture and mining, benefit all Malawians,” said Mtumbuka.

He also pledged to reduce taxes and stimulate economic growth, creating employment opportunities for the youth.

Mtumbuka further promised to carry on the legacy of the former Vice President and party leader, Saulos Chilima, who tragically passed away in a plane crash in the Chikangawa Forest in Mzimba on 10 June 2024.

He described the late Chilima as the best president the country could have ever had.
