On paper, it is the Madala team of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) which is running the affairs of the party because, however, the trend has shown that it is the Nankhumwa team which is running the show.
The DPP has never known peace since they were relegated to the opposition in the 2020 presidential fresh elections.
The party has been a subject of endless court battles and Mutharika has always been at the receiving end of those countless leadership wrangles.
And what may be seen aa another spat on Mutharika’s face, the party’s Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey has told Shadreck Namalomba, going forward he will not be allowed to speak on behalf of the party until the convention is held.
Speaking after the DPP Central Committee meeting in the week, Jeffrey said to avoid confusion ahead of the DPP convention all the party communication will be handled by her office.
She said: “From now onwards all communication will be coming from me as the secretary general.There will be no more confusion because we have agreed to move as a bloc.”
The new found peace in the party is cosmetic and the move to ban the pro Mutharika spokesperson from communicating party matters is another defeat to Madala team ahead of the elective conference.
