By Vincent Gunde

President and Commander in Chief of Muvi wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party (MRP) Bantu Saunders Jumah, says his party and hopefully all other new political parties upcoming in Malawi will not recognize 2025 elections unless citizens of Malawi endorse the changes through a national Referendum before the 21st May, 2024.

Jumah said President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera together with his Vice President Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima and the entire Tonse Alliance government breached the country’s Supreme law by scheming with the Legislature to unilaterally change the term of office of the President and MPs from 5 to 6 years.

He said being the beneficiaries of the changes, the President and his cabinet, the House of Parliament and its members violated their jurisdiction in conflict of interest saying it is not surprising that today, each and every policy they make fails and faults themselves.

Writing in a statement dated 12th January, 2024, Jumah said any extension of the 5-year constitutional mandate of the President and Members of Parliament to 16th September, 2025 will be done under the leadership of an INTERIM or Government of National Unity (GNU).

Jumah has gave the condition that the constitution is going to be reviewed, revisited and amended where Sections 64 and 65, Section 91 Subsection 1 and 2 and others be reactivated and deactivated to suit the demands of the poor in Malawi.

He has demanded Cabinet Reshuffle to bring in new people as a matter of urgency observing that the current cabinet has completely failed and civil servants hired through nepotism, tribe, religion and party affiliations must be fired with immediate effect.

The MRP President has also demanded commencement of lifestyle audit to determine how government officials are spending taxpayer’s money and that all government contracts awarded to people basing on political party affiliation must be dissolved and bringing to book all culprits involved in the money gates.

“k17 billion, K5 billion, K155 billion, K50 billion, K30 billion, Crossroad gates, 84 people named in ACB’s report, all these must be sent to Prison,” reads the statement in part.

Jumah said Malawi has lost 5 years of economic development observing that there is no hope in sight and the very same people that have destroyed the country cannot be entrusted to rebuild it in 18 months.

He said Malawi now more than ever needs and require fresh blood and new philosophers assuring all that MRP has come to change the political, economic and social strategy in Malawi lamenting that Malawi is not a country that must starve its people and visitors.

Jumah said Malawi is one of the blessed nations on Earth, it has every resource needed for its development such as five beautiful lakes, reivers with plenty of water, fertile soils, minerals, among others.
