The country’s renowned Goverance and Human Rights advocate Undule Mwakasungula has commended President Dr.Lazarus Chakwera’s State of Nation Address (SONA) speech for outlining
measures that will help government rebalance and restructure the economy in the wake of the current socio-economic challenges facing the nation.
In his speech delivered on Friday at Parliament Building in Lilongwe, President Chakwera spelt out several strategies his administration is undertaking as essential steps towards sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
In his response to Chakwera’s address which touched on different sectors of the economy, Mwakasungula says the speech has provided hope to the nation.
For example on the economic recovery and donor confidence, Mwakasungula says:”President Chakwera highlighted important strides in economic stabilization and growth, backed by international confidence as evidenced by the resumption of direct budget support from the World Bank and European Union.
“The address detailed remarkable improvements in the Agricultural Input Program (AIP) and the establishment of Mega Farms and mechanization strategies to bolster food security.”
He adds:”Efforts to address hunger through strategic reserves and targeted distribution underscores his governments proactive approach to ensuring food availability across the country.”
According to Mwakasungula, the President’s address underscores the administration’s dedication to governance reforms, economic stability, and well-being of the Malawian people, setting a foundation for future growth and development.
He has since emphasized that the implementation of the SONA is highly depended on the collaboration of Civil Society Organisation(CSO) the opposition and Malawians at large to hold the government accountable.
