New Chinese ambassador vows to strengthen bilateral ties with Malawi

By Twink Jones Gadama

The new Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Lu Xu, has pledged to maintain strong bilateral relations between China and Malawi, while initiating development projects in key areas such as tourism.

Xu made these remarks after presenting her letters of credence to President Lazarus Chakwera at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

Xu emphasized that China and Malawi share common goals in implementing development projects, which forms the basis of her commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. “As Ambassador, my primary focus will be on building a solid political relationship, followed by economic cooperation,” she stated.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, welcomed Xu’s commitment, highlighting China’s reliability as a partner in implementing national development projects.

Tembo cited the construction of the parliament building and road projects as examples of successful collaborations between the two nations.

Tembo expressed optimism that Xu’s tenure as Ambassador will assist Malawi in achieving its development goals, particularly in areas such as industrialization. “We look forward to working closely with Ambassador Xu to deepen our bilateral cooperation and advance our shared interests,” Tembo said.

The strengthening of bilateral ties between China and Malawi is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economic development.

China has been a significant partner in Malawi’s development, providing financial and technical support for various infrastructure projects.

In recent years, China has invested heavily in Malawi’s infrastructure development, including the construction of roads, bridges, and buildings.

The country has also provided scholarships to Malawian students to study in China, promoting people-to-people exchanges and cultural cooperation.

Xu’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and initiating development projects in areas such as tourism is expected to further boost economic cooperation between the two nations.

As Malawi continues to navigate its development journey, the country is likely to benefit from China’s expertise and financial support.

The arrival of Ambassador Lu Xu marks a new chapter in the bilateral relations between China and Malawi.

As the two nations continue to work together to achieve their development goals, the people of Malawi can expect to benefit from increased economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and infrastructure development.
