Nkhotakota Education College Visits Parliament Amid Budget Session

By Dean Chisambo

Nkhotakota Education College, along with a private secondary school, visited Parliament during the 2025-2026 budget session in Lilongwe. The visit was sponsored by the schools’ managing directors, who are also Malawi Congress Party (MCP) legislators for Nkhotakota-Chia and Nkhotakota Central constituencies, Brainax Kaisi and Peter Mazizi.

In his remarks, Kaisi emphasized the importance of learning beyond the classroom. He stated that the students’ visit to Parliament would help them understand how legislators deliberate and make decisions. “In the future, when these students have political interests, they can build on this experience,” he added.

School headmaster Kaombe Chiwaula Mbali also highlighted the significance of the tour. He explained that their curriculum focuses on governance and democracy, and the visit provided students with the opportunity to learn first-hand. “It is important for students to experience governance in action, beyond the classroom,” Mbali said.

He noted that the visit was an eye-opener for the students, who were able to see how parliamentary duties are carried out. Mbali also stressed the importance of teaching students about the three branches of government, with the visit offering them a closer look at Parliament as one of these branches.

The visit provided valuable educational exposure, giving students insight into the workings of the national legislature.
