Over 82,000 Teachers Licensed as Registration Deadline Approaches

By Elywin Chighali Mhango

The Ministry of Education has commended teachers across the country for their prompt response to licensing requirements, with over 82,000 educators successfully registering with the Teachers Council of Malawi (TCM).

Public Relations Officer Mphatso Nkuonera announced that the deadline for teacher registration is set for December 31, 2024, and emphasized that only licensed teachers are permitted to practice in the classroom. “It is encouraging to note that we have already issued licenses to not less than 82,000 teachers,” Nkuonera stated.

He urged the remaining educators to take immediate action to complete their registration, warning that without a license, they would not be legally allowed to teach in the country. “The task ahead for the remaining teachers is significant; they must secure their licenses, as our inspections will not tolerate unregistered teachers in classrooms,” he added.

Nkuonera highlighted that the TCM’s role is to regulate the teaching profession, ensuring compliance and maintaining standards within the educational system. The Ministry of Education has extended the registration deadline to accommodate teachers who faced challenges during the initial registration phase, allowing them additional time to comply with the legal requirements.

The ministry’s proactive approach aims to enhance the quality of education in Malawi by ensuring that all teachers meet necessary licensing standards.
