Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Simplex Chithyola-Banda says the Parliamentary Committee on Budget is very critical in the formulation of a watertight budget that is responsive to the needs of Malawians.
Speaking on Saturday at Mponela, Dowa during the minister’s interface with the Committee Chithyola-Banda said the Ministry appreciates and takes seriously contributions from the budget committee on budget planning issues, implementation and monitoring.
“The economy currently recovering will move at a supersonic speed once we hang our political interests over national interest hence the need for collaboration amongst all stakeholders including members of parliament.
“The government takes seriously the outcome of these meetings as they are informative to various issues including macroeconomic management, tax policy issues and management, expenditure control and debt sustainability,” Chithyola-Banda said.
In his remarks Secretary to the Treasury Betchani Tchereni said the inputs from the members are valuable for further perfection, improvement and common understanding of figures and stories behind the budget.
Parliamentary Committee on Budget Chairperson Gladys Ganda said the economy is still recovering from the impact of Covid-19 and Cyclone Freddy hence the need for constructive feedback and advice on the budget.
