A bodybuilder has been fatally shot by a police officer at Gateway Mall in Lilongwe. The victim name Chikondi Makawa met his fate on Sunday evening
According to reports gathered by 247Malawi News, the incident which at this point is being taken as an accidental killing occurred at about 2250hrs at Acres Bottle store (Gateway) within Lilongwe city.
According to Sub inspector David Chitsike of Gateway Mall police unit reports that Chikondi was accidentally shot dead on the left Chest.
What triggered the incident was that the deceased was at Acres Bottle store and he bought one Bottle water and went out without paying for it.He then was leaving the place without paying when Bar tender named Wilson Malunga followed him asking for payment. At this point the deceased instead of paying the money grabbed Mr Wilson and punched him down. When the watchmen of Gateway Compus saw that Mr wilson Malunga had been assaulted they reported a matter to Gateway Mall police unit. When Police arrived and approached the deceased, the deceased went for the officer and tried to confiscate his gun. The police officer then shot the victim in self defense
The body of the Chikondi was taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital mortuary pending postmortem Examination and identification.
