Police in Chitipa on Thursday rescued a 30-year-old man, Lenwell Mwachitete from angry mob baying for his blood for being suspected to have stolen a motorcycle on May 12, 2024 in the district.
According to assistant Public Relations Officer(PRO) for Chitipa police , constable Bright Mathews Mfune, on the above mentioned day, some people saw the suspect at Chitipa market and confronted him that he was seen with the stolen motorcycle, Yamaha DT going with it to Tanzania.
Then, the people mobilized themselves and started beating him.
“Well-wishers informed the police who rushed to the scene and rescued him from the angry people,” says Mfune.
He says currently, the suspect is receiving medical treatment at Chitipa district Hospital since he was heavily assaulted.
Mwachitete hails from Kasisi village in the area of Senior Chief Mwaulambia in Chitipa district.
