Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, suffered a bruised arm after falling at his residence in the Vatican on January 16, 2025. According to Vatican officials, the 88-year-old pontiff fell at his home in the Santa Marta house, resulting in a contusion on his right forearm.
The Vatican revealed that Pope Francis’ arm was not fractured in the accident, but it was braced as a precautionary measure. Photos taken on the morning of January 16 show the Pope’s arm tied up in a white sling during his scheduled audiences at the apostolic palace.
This incident marks the second time in recent months that Pope Francis has been injured in a fall. In December 2024, the Pope suffered a mild injury when he hit his chin on his nightstand, causing a large hematoma on the lower right side of his cheek.
Despite his recent health setbacks, Pope Francis has continued to maintain a busy schedule. On the morning of January 16, he met with various dignitaries, including the Bektashi Islamic leader of Tirana, Albania, and the chairwoman of the World Food Security Committee.
Pope Francis has been showing signs of aging in recent years, often using a wheelchair to move around and experiencing occasional problems with breathlessness. At Christmas Eve Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica on December 24, 2024, he was seen wearing what appeared to be hearing devices.
The Pope’s health has been a subject of concern in recent years, with many speculating about his potential retirement. However, Pope Francis has shown no signs of slowing down, continuing to lead the Catholic Church with his trademark energy and dedication.
