President Chakwera joins thousands in mourning Dr Killion Mgawi , describes him as a revered clerk

Malawi leader President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, on Wednesday 26th June 2024 travelled 60 Kilometres South of Capital Lilongwe where he went to attend funeral of late Reverend Dr Killion Mgawi who died few days ago.

Speaking  on behalf of President Chakwera,  Chief Political Advisor,  Kingsley Sulamoyo, says Nkhoma synode has lost a great man of God who championed various projects in his life while serving as the president.

Sulamoyo said , Mgawi was great advisor and played great role towards the growth of the synod.

In his eulogy, family Representative Dr. Heatherwick Ntaba described Rev. Mgawi as a pillar who kept the family together.

“Today instead of crying, we have agreed to celebrate his life because he was a special gift to our family. He was a very extra ordinary gentleman,” he said.

Upon his arrival, President Chakwera went straight into Nkhoma CCAP Mission Church to pay his last respects to the late Rev. Mgawi where his body lay in state.

The Very Reverend Dr. Killion Gibson Jacob Mgawi, will be remembered for being the first African General Secretary of the CCAP Nkhoma Synod in Malawi at Nkhoma CCAP Mission Church in Lilongwe.

The late Mgawi’s daughter Professor Address Malata said she adored her father who was also a great worshipper.

“He was God loving. He loved everyone. He was a giver. He encouraged us to attain higher education. He invited all of us his siblings last year and blessed each one of us,” she explained.

Reverend Mgawi 93 was a devoted Gospel preacher for close to 70 years who ended his illustrious public life as Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Commissioner.

Reverend Mgawi was among the founding members of Evangelical Association of Malawi as well as Students Christian Organization of Malawi (SCOM).
