His Excellency the State President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, left for New York, United States of America to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
This year’s summit is being held under the theme “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals Towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress and the Sustainability For All”
The thematic direction has been chosen to allow member states to reflect on how they are faring halfway on the path towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals also known as Global Goals by the year 2030.
In a pre-departure interview, His Excellency the President justified his attendance at the summit saying it affords an opportunity for Malawi to engage bilateral and multilateral stakeholders on his administration’s untiring efforts of rebuilding Malawi.
In that vein, the President disclosed that he will among other engagements convene a development conference aimed at mobilizing global solidarity and resources towards recovery efforts in the aftermath of natural disasters, geopolitical strife and disrupted global supply chains.
His Excellency the President has been accompanied by the First Lady, Madam Monica Chakwera and government dignitaries.
