Malawi President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on Tuesday received Letters of Credence from Agnes Richard Kayola, the Tanzania’s High Commissioner – Designate to Malawi, at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
Speaking after presenting the letters, Kayola said her discussions with the President centered on strengthening relations between the two countries, Tanzania and Malawi, due to their long historical relationship in business and investments.
The two also discussed regional projects, as both countries are members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
She highlighted the importance of equipping the people from both countries with key information regarding cross-border trade requirements, to ensure efficient clearance at the border.
On her part, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, reiterated the need for people from both countries to understand and seize opportunities from trade agreements like the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA).
She further said the discussions revolved around areas of cooperation between Tanzania and Malawi, such as connectivity, hinting at the establishment of a one-stop border post in Karonga and railway transport.
