Malawi is a country in mourning once again following the passing of former Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe.
Meanwhile tributes are pouring in from all walks of life. Leading Malawians in expressing deep sorrow for the passing of Gondwe is the State President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera.
According to a Press Statement issued by the State House Press Office, President Chakwera has been saddened by Gondwe’s passing.
It says: “The First Lady and I are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of the former Minister of Finance, Goodall Gondwe.”
President Chakwera said Goondwe will be remembered for his dedication and numerous contributions to the country as a Cabinet Minister.
“His dedicated service and contributions for our nation will forever be remembered,” reads the statement.
Gondwe left an indelible mark in his time as a Cabinet Minister when he led the nation to become the second fastest economy behind Quatar. He served as the Minister of Finance in two spells under Bingu Mutharika and Peter Mutharika. His cabinet post was the Minister of Local Government in the Peter Mutharika’s Administration.
