A 38-year-old teacher, Kalirani Manda, from Chikuta Primary School in Mchinji, has tragically passed away due to excessive alcohol consumption.
According to Mchinji Police Public Relations Officer(PRO), Limbani Mpinganjira, the incident occurred on the night of December 20, 2024, in Bua-Chikuta Village, Traditional Authority(T/A) Mlonyeni.
Mpinganjira says Manda had left his home for Bua Trading Center, where he consumed numerous beers on an empty stomach.
He says later that evening, around 20:00 hours, Manda left the drinking premises while intoxicated.
“The following day, he was found unresponsive in a soya field within Chikuta Village.
“The autopsy revealed that Manda’s death was caused by hypoglycemia, a condition triggered by excessive alcohol consumption on an empty stomach.
“Authorities have ruled out foul play, and burial arrangements have been made,” says Mpinganjira.
The deceased was from Kapoloza Village, Traditional Authority(T/A) Kalumo in Ntchisi.
