A primary school teacher Tionge Mtambo, has been selected as one of the top 10 finalists for the prestigious Global Teacher Prize 2024.
Mtambo, who serves as the Headteacher at Tondola Primary School, is the only African representative on the elite list, competing against exceptional teachers from around the world.
Reacting to the news, Mtambo expressed her gratitude, stating that the recognition is a milestone not only for her but for all teachers in the country.
“This achievement signifies that Malawian teachers can set an exemplary standard of dedication and passion for education,” she said.
The Global Teacher Prize, which aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding educators, received over 11,000 nominations from teachers making a positive impact in their respective countries.
The winner of the prize will receive a cash award of $1 million (approximately K1.78 billion).
