Rookies Rumphi United and Sable Farming on Saturday registered their biggest wins in the TNM Super League after beating Waka-waka Tigers and Red Lions.
Having drawn against Mighty Wanderers and convincingly won against Mafco FC last weekend, many soccer lovers thought that Waka-waka Tigers and Red Lions would have an easy ride against Rumphi and Sable respectively.
However Saturday’s TNM Super League results tell a different story as Waka-waka Tigers got mercilessly beaten by the Leopards at Rumphi Stadium as Red Lions got humiliated at the hands of another rookie, Sable Farming FC at Mpira Stadium.
Trouble Kajani troubled Tigers’ defence and managed to hit the back of the _Kau-Kau_ boys’ net twice, in the 25th and 32nd minute, before Gerrard Ngwira hammered the last nail on Tigers’ coffin from the penalty spot in the 75th minute. It ended 3-nil in favor of the home side.
Speaking after the match Rumphi United assistant Coach Jimmy Butawo praised his charges for the brilliant performance and promised to work even harder in their next fixtures.
Tigers coach Trevor Kajawa accepted defeat saying his boys did not play well but promised to perform much better in their next game against Ekwendeni Hammers.
In Blantyre, goals from Emmanuel Lino and Christopher Gototo were enough to give Sable Farming maximum points against Red Lions and hand the Zomba-based soldiers their first loss this season.
Elsewhere, Mighty Wanderers got a vital away win against Moyale Barracks at Mzuzu Stadium. Chiukepo Msowoya scored the only goal of the match.
In Lilongwe, defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets came from behind to draw 1-1 against league leaders Blue Eagles FC at Nankhaka Stadium.
John Malidadi Junior put Eagles in the lead with a brilliant header 31 minutes in the first half but Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju equalised for the People’s team from the penalty spot five minutes later.
In Karonga, goals from defender Nickson Mwase and striker Chawanangwa Kaonga were enough for Silver Strikers to collect maximum points against Karonga United at Karonga Stadium.
On Sunday, Civil Service United will take on Mafco FC at Civo Stadium while TN Stars takes on Kamuzu Barracks at Kasungu Stadium as Ekwendeni Hammers play Wakawaka Tigers at Mzuzu Stadium.
On Wednesday, it will be a ‘David versus Goliath’ battle as Dedza Dynamos host Nyasa Big Bullets at Balaka Stadium.
