Renowned gospel singer Rudo Mkukupa Chakwera has today released a revamped version of her debut song ‘Mwana wa Masiye.’
In an interview with 247 Malawi News,Rudo said the release of the revamped version of the 1999 song is part of commemorating her 25 years in the music industry.
“The song holds a profound place in my heart, as it delves into the depths of loss, particularly the experience of orphanhood.
“Parents are the cornerstone of a child’s existence, and I aimed to empathize with that reality through my music. Additionally, I have long been driven to make a difference in the lives of orphans, and I believe God is guiding me in that mission,” she said.
The musician added that after 25 years, she has chosen to reintroduce this song to the world because circumstances have evolved.
“Many issues that once weighed heavily on our hearts are gradually fading into memory. However, the plight of orphans remains a pressing concern for me,” she added.
Rudo further stated that in the song she wants to remind the current generation that kindness and love have enduring value.
“As the world continues to dispense love, let us ensure that orphans are not overlooked but are welcomed to the table of compassion,” she explained.
Rudo, a daughter of iconic jazz artist Isaac Mkukupa, is a renowned figure in Malawi’s music scene.
She Started her singing career in 1999.
The musician holds a Masters in Business Administration.
She studied music at Chancellor College and later returned to teach part-time.
Associated with her father’s group ‘Touch of Class,’ Rudo has graced significant events, including performances at the SADC Heads of State Banquet.
A respected voice in Malawi’s music, she serves on the National Executive Committee and holds various artistic positions.
As a judge on ‘E-Wallet’ and with four albums under her belt, Rudo continues to contribute to Malawi’s musical landscape.
