Malawians across the United Kingdom and keen footballer followers have learnt with shock the death of a young footballer who until recently was playing for the premiership club Manchester City as an academy player.
A highly-rated young player Jeremy Winsten signed for Manchester City Football Academy back in 2016 for the clubs Under 13 Elite Squad. Jeremy was born in Lilongwe to Malawi parents. The family settled in England when he was one year old.
Early Sunday morning , news broke on social media that the 18 year old youngster is no more. Jeremy was found dead and Police have confirmed that they are not treating his death as suspicious. His death which has come as a shock left many people comforting his family . “ oh death where is your sting, such a young fine boy .May God strengthen you” wrote one Malawian on the Jeremy;s mother facebook page. Manchester city fans page City Xtra paid its own tribute by announcing that former academy player had passed away and thoughts are with the family and friends.
Previously Jeremy expressed his wish to one day be the best centre back in England. . Prior to Manchester City, Jeremy played grass roots football at Altrincham Juniors FC in Greater Manchester before moving to Salford-based De La Salle FC in 2014 where he helped his team win the coveted Manchester FA County Cup in style, conceding only one goal in the entire competition.He also played for Trafford Schoolboys during 2015.
Details of Jeremy funeral will be announced although the family has asked for some privacy at this time
