Sad News as Young Lawyer commits suicide in Lilongwe

It’s appears the rising cases of suicide continues to shock the nation as news has come out that a young lawyer in Lilongwe has taken his own life. A Senior State Advocate in the Ministry of Justice, Trevor Mphalale, has been found dead inside his Area 51 house in the capital city, Lilongwe.

National Police Spokesperson, James Kadadzera, confirmed the development to Malawi Broadcasting Corporation.

“It is true. Police found the body hanging in his house, Area 51. Currently, the body is at Kamuzu Central Hospital pending postmortem to establish the cause of death,” said Kadadzera.

Mphalale was until his death serving as a Senior State Advocate in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ( DPP).

He came in the limelight together with lawyers Ruth Kaima and Chikondi Chijozi when the trio successfully handled the case of the police officer, Andrew Chagaga, who was later convicted and sentenced by the Blantyre High Court to 30 years in jail for raping a 17-year-old MUBAS student then Polytechnic. – MBC Online Services

Writing on her Facebook, Chikondi Chijozi wrote “Comrade Trevor Mphalale, it’s sad to hear of your passing. I only got to know you as we worked together on the Chagaga case. What a top lad you were, full of life. We made a great team and you have left us in shock. Rest well Counsel”
