A Scottish based actress of Malawian origin Lois Chimimba has hit it big after being nominated for Scottish top award. The Scottish Baftas celebrate phenomenal level of talent and creativity in the film and TV industry. Lois Chimimba has been nominated for her role in sitcom Group
Making a statement , the organisers revealed that the nominees for the 2020 Scottish Baftas have been announced .This year’s digital ceremony will be on Tuesday December 8 .The covid pandemic will mean the event will be held virtually unlike the other years.
Lois Chimimba who is of mixed heritage lived in Malawi until she was two before moving to Scotland and living in Glasgow. She has a Malawian father and Scottish mum. Lois said her wish as she was growing up was to be a pop star. She started going to a speech school in Glasgow but realised that being a pop star was maybe not the right thing for her. I started doing drama classes every week and that became more of a focus.
Jude MacLaverty, director of Bafta Scotland, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be announcing our British Academy Scotland Award nominations, which highlight the phenomenal level of talent and creativity in the film, game and television industries within Scotland.
In her category of best Actress Television- Lois is fighting for the award with two other nominees, Veteran actress and former Labour Member of Parliament Glenda Jackson for her role in Elizabeth is Missing; and Mirren Mack for her role in -The Nest
