SDA president urges flock to trust in God as Veep Usi attends service

By Catherine Chikopa

President of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Union in Malawi, Pastor Tony Nyirenda has called on Adventists to anchor their faith and trust in God, emphasizing the importance of relying on divine guidance amid life’s challenges.

Preaching during a church service held at Thekerani Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Thyolo under theme: ‘Crossing Jordan,’ Nyirenda observed that while life is often filled with troubles, God’s purpose and presence remain constant.

“There are many things happening in our daily lives that leave us troubled, but it is crucial for Christians to focus on God. He allows certain challenges to happen in our lives for a reason so that His glory may be revealed,” he said.

Citing the biblical story of Shadreck, Misheck and Abednego, Nyirenda reminded the congregation of God’s unwavering protection and presence.

“God never left them and in the same way, he will protect and guide us through the different problems we face, even here in Malawi,” Nyirenda who drew inspiration from the Book of Joshua 3: 3-4, 15-17 assured.

He, therefore, encouraged the faithful to demonstrate their belief by steadfastly holding on to God and never losing hope, adding: “We must put our faith in God and never give up.”

The prayer service was graced by the Vice President, Dr. Michael Usi who commended the church for fostering hope and faith among its members.

Usi reiterated the signifucant role the church plays 8in addressing both individual and national challenges.

“Despite facing many difficulties, faith in God remains the cornerstone of our resilience as people. Just as Pastor Nyirenda has said, God is always present, even in our darkest moments,” he said.

Drawing from his own experiences, the Vice President  concurred with Nyirenda on the power of unity and prayer.

“As Malawians, we must support one another through kindness and prayer. Together, we can overcome worldly troubles,” he added.

On his part, President of SDA South East Malawi Conference, Daniel Binali said there were boundless possibilities found in God.

“As Seventh-Day Adventists, our faith must be deeply rooted in Christ because that is where our hope lies,” he said.

Binali also echoed the Veep’s sentiments, urging the congregation to cast their burdens on God, inspired by scripture.

“Human beings may grow weary, but God never does. He is the Creator of the universe, and He knows all our troubles. As the Bible says, ‘Cast all your burdens unto me, and I will give you rest.’

Thekerani SDA Mission was established in 1910 and has about 707 members.
