Police in Blantyre have recorded one more case against Mohamed Shabir Salim Jussab, who is already wanted on another crime, but this time around facing an assault charge.
Malawi Police Service earlier placed Jussab on Interpol Red Alert for alleged cyber harassment.
Stainford Kalitsilira, 72, who was working as a driver at Jussab’s company in Limbe, RR Trading, lodged a complaint at Blantyre Police Station that his boss assaulted him when he was demanding for his pay after he was fired.
South West Region Police Headquarters spokesperson Beatrice Mikuwa confirmed in a response to a questionnaire of the assault charge, adding investigations were underway.
Police earlier last week obtained a warrant of arrest against Jussab, a resident of Mandala, for the alleged cyber harassment offences, contrary to section 86(b) of the Electronic Transaction and Cyber Security Act.
In the assault case, the fired driver, Kalitsilira, told police he was assaulted by Jussab at RR Trading in Limbe on July 16 2023 when he was on duty.
He said when he returned at the office from an assignment, he was accused of wrongly parking a car by his boss Shabir, who later on assaulted him and told him he was fired.
In an interview Kalitsilira said he was rescued by onlookers, adding apart from the physical assault, Shabir also called him “a slave” (Kapolo) and insulted his father.
Police, according to the warrant of arrest we have seen on the cyber harassment, alleges that between the month of July and August 2023, in the District of Blantyre, Jussab used his computer system to send out messages threatening to inflict injury to Abdul Karim Batatawala and other members of his family with no purpose of legitimate communication.
Particulars further allege that Jussab, between the same dates, willfully and repeatedly used WhatsApp messages to disturb or attempt to disturb the peace, quietness or right to privacy of Batatawala and his family members.
