Silver Strikers have emerged as the 2024 TNM Super League champions after a thrilling 1-0 victory over Mighty Mukuru Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday.
The match’s sole goal was scored by MacDonald Lameck in the 53rd minute, securing the championship title for the Central Bankers with two games to spare.
In a post-match interview,Silver Strikers’ head coach, Peter Mponda, praised his team for their discipline and execution.
“It was a professional performance. We capitalised on their missed chances and applied what we would worked on all season. I am proud of the players,” said Mponda.
He expressed his gratitude towards the team’s board.
“I faced opposition from some quarters due to my perceived sympathies towards FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
“However, the board stood firm in their decision, and today, everyone associated with Silver is basking in joy,” said the bankers coach.
On his part,Wanderers’ interim head coach, Bob Mpinganjira, lamented his team’s second-half lapse.
“We played well in the first half but were caught off-guard in the second half, which led to the goal. Unfortunately, we could not find a response,” said Mpinganjira.
The league will go into final phases on Sunday as Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos will host Mzuzu City Hammers, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will travel to Mulanje to face FOMO, and Karonga United will take on Bangwe All Stars.
