Two stunning goals from Chikondi Kamanga and Zebron Kalima helped Silver Strikers to extend lead at the top of the TNM Super to six points after a 2-nil win over Mighty Mukuru Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.
The central bankers have now accumulated 19 points from 7 games followed by FCB Nyasa Big Bullets who are second following their 2-nil win over third placed Mzuzu City Hammers on Saturday.
Wanderers remain fourth on the log table with 12 points followed by Kamuzu Barracks who have the same number of points after playing seven games.
In an entertaining match played at Silver Stadium, the home side started very well, dominating possession the good part of the first half but missed a number of scoring opportunities.
Silver almost found themselves in the lead 13 minutes from kick-off when Ediel Kaduya and McDonald Lameck beautifully exchanged passes and found Zebron Kalima who missed with just an inch.
Wanderers had an opportunity to find the back of the net in the 28th minute through Timothy Silwimba but his shot went over the cross bar.
Silver Strikers continued to press for an early goal and they were almost rewarded in the 32nd minute but Charles Chipala’s goal was ruled out for an offside.
Christopher Kumwembe had a chance to score a minute before half time after receiving a cross from Wisdom Mpinganjira but his volley went over the cross bar.
The second half saw both side struggling to settle in the first 15 minutes but Silver Strikers then managed to settle first thanks to a Chikondi Kamanga’s 57th minute goal.
Kamanga broke the deadlock with a beautiful volley after receiving a pass from Chimwemwe Idana to the excitement of the home fans who turned out in large numbers.
Substitute Vincent Nyangulu had a chance to level the scores in the 77th minute but his shot went over the cross bar.
Zebron Kalima doubled Silver’s lead in the 84th minute with yet another stunning long-range shot that left goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa with nothing to do.
After the match Uchizi Vunga for Silver Strikers was voted man of the match.
Elsewhere, it ended goalless between Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos and Chitipa United at Dedza Stadium as Mafco FC got an away victory against Bangwe All Stars courtesy of Yohane Malunga’s 55th minute goal.
In Karonga, Karonga United gave away their 1-nill lead to draw 1-all against Civil Service United at Karonga Stadium.
Elie Kayombo who was also voted man of the match put the home side in front from the penalty sport three minutes before the end of the first half, but Civi equalised in the 71st minute through Muhammad Biason.
Baka City, Bangwe All Stars and Chitipa United remain bottom on the log table as they have only managed to collect less than six points since the start of the league.
