Southern Region Press Club Applauded for Empowering Journalists

Evidence Action company, one of the key sponsors of the Southern Region Press Club (SRPC)’ AGM, has commended the club for empowering journalists to develop a business mindset, ensuring their sustainability in life. This recognition was made during the SRPC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on December 20-21, 2024, in Mangochi.

Moses Chisangwala, Program Manager for Safe Water Now (SWN) an initiative under Evidence Action, highlighted the importance of journalists’ involvement in the country’s economic development initiatives. He emphasized the need for journalists to promote food security, health sector work, and improve sanitation in different locations.



“It is our pleasure as Evidence Action to commend SRPC for empowering its members to be part of our work through encouraging them to have a business mindset. We feel media is crucial to us,” Chisangwala said.

SRPC President Ronald Amos emphasized the importance of adopting a business mindset,

“As journalists, we need to think beyond just receiving allowances. We need to create initiatives that benefit not only ourselves but also others, and contribute to creating an economically sustainable environment.”he said.

Over 75 journalists from various media outlets in the region participated in discussions and debates on the club’s progress and possible financial future initiatives, including cooperative shares and the club’s village bank.

The SRPC also unveiled several initiatives aimed at promoting economic sustainability among its members, such as training programs, business mentorship, and partnerships with local businesses and organizations.
