Just three months in the office, Films Association of Malawi President Gift Sukali has already signed two major deals for local films to start being premiered in a proper cinema atmosphere.
Speaking after signing an agreement with Amaryllis Hotel, Sukali populary known as ‘Sukez’ said the hotel will transform it’s conference hall to a proper cinema atmosphere for movie directors to premiere their films at the hotel.
He said actors in the country lack platforms to show case their products, a situation he says is affecting growth of the sector and the signing of the MOU will help local film directors show case their movies.
In her remarks, Sales and Marketing Manager for Amaryllis Khaira Surtee said, on top of offering a venue for movie showcasing they will also be providing platforms for actors’ workshops at the facility.
She said, “Malawian actors will now have a good platform where they can be screening their works.”
This is the second agreement for the film-maker cum producer and his team to sign such agreements having signed another agreement with Latitude 13 Hotel in Lilongwe.
Sukali was elected FAMA president and award-winning actress and film-maker Flora Suya as his vice during an election that took place in June this year.
The FAMA leader was recently in Zambia to promote his movie, ‘Fatsani: A Tale of Survival’, which was nominated for an award at the Sotambe Film Festival in Zambia.
