Renowned Malawian musician Tay-Grin’s house in Area 43, Lilongwe, was ravaged by a fire on Monday evening, destroying property worth millions of kwacha.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 5 pm when Tay-Grin was in the studio recording music.
The musician told reporters that he received a call informing him of the fire, and by the time he arrived at his house, the fire had already spread.

“I was in the studio when I received a call that my house was on fire,” Tay-Grin said. “I rushed home, but unfortunately, the fire had already destroyed most of my property.”
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but Tay-Grin suspects that it might have been caused by an electrical fault.
“I’m still in shock, but I’m grateful that no one was hurt in the fire,” Tay-Grin said. “I’m appealing to the public to help me rebuild my house and replace the property that was destroyed.”
The fire destroyed most of Tay-Grin’s property, including his music equipment, furniture, and clothing.
Tay-Grin’s fans have taken to social media to express their sympathy and support for the musician.
“We are with you in this difficult time, Tay-Grin,” wrote one fan on Facebook. “We hope you will bounce back stronger than ever.”
The incident has also raised concerns about fire safety in Malawi, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent such incidents.
“This incident is a wake-up call for all of us to take fire safety seriously,” wrote another fan. “We need to make sure that our homes and buildings are equipped with fire extinguishers and that we have emergency plans in place.”
The police and fire department are still investigating the cause of the fire.
