TNM Super League: Chitipa United outclass Civil to move to second

Chitipa United climbed above Silver Strikers in the TNM Super League Standings following their 2-1 win against Civil Service United in a match that took place at Karonga Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Innocent Tanganyika put the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute after connecting a corner by Patrick Phiri but their joy was short-leaved as Ramadhan Ntafu cancelled the lead just two minutes later after an assist by Rajab Nyirenda.

Nyirenda then scored the winner for Chitipa in the 59th minute after Civil’s defense failed to clear the ball in the box.

After the match, Rajab Nyirenda for Chitipa was voted man of the match.

The win means that the northern region side has now accumulated 26 points, level with leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and a point above the central bankers who have two games to play.

In other matches played on Saturday, Bangwe All Stars and Ekwendeni Hammers shared the spoils at Mpira Stadium with Emmanuel Lino scoring for the home side and Mpatso Magaleta for the visitors.

In Dwangwa, Mafco FC claimed a 2-nil victory against fellow soldiers Red Lions to move to position 8 on the log table.

Auspicious Kadzongola scored the opener for the home side and Peter Kasonga scored the other goal in the added time.

The games continue on Sunday, as Karonga United host Kamuzu Barracks while Extreme FC play Dedza Dynamos at Civil Stadium.

The big match on Sunday will be at Kamuzu Stadium as fifth placed Mighty Mukuru Wanderers play host to Blue Eagles FC who are perched on position 11.
