Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have climbed top of the TNM Super League following a comfortable 3-nil win against Creck Sporting Football Club at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Nomads opened the scoring in the 19th minutes through Stanley Sanudi who scored from the penalty sport after a foul on Timothy Silwamba in the penalty box.
Christopher Kumwembe doubled the Nomads’ lead in the 36th minute with a beautiful header, connecting well a corner-kick taken by Stanley Sanudi.
The second half saw the visitors making a triple substitution replacing Tathedwa Willard, Akuzike Lifa and Gift Kadawati with Ademola Ajibola, Hardy Ng’andu and George Chaomba.
The changes helped to change the team’s and they started creating scoring opportunities.
However, Gaddie Chirwa almost made it 3-nil for the Nomads in the 50th minute when he released a thunderous shot outstanding the 18-yard-box but Creck goalkeeper Charles Chisale fumbled it before Kumwembe’s shot hit side netting on a rebound.
Creck had a chance to pull one back from a free-kick but Dalitso Nahipa’s shot was saved for a corner-kick by goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa.
The visitors also had a goal disallowed for an offside in the 60th minute.
Substitute Francisco Madinga had his chance to put his name on the scoresheet and make it 3 for the Nomads in the 75th minute, but his shot in the 6-yard box was beautifully saved by Chisale.
Wanderers scored their third goal through Gaddie Chirwa after a beautiful exchange of passes between himself, Kumwembe and Wisdom Mpinganjira.
Mpinganjira who was also voted man of the match, could have made it four in the added time but he was denied by the woodwork.
In other matches played on Saturday, Kamuzu Barracks were 3-1 winners over rookies FOMO FC while Moyale Barracks thumped Civil Service United 3-0 at Mzuzu Stadium.
The match between Baka City and MAFCO which was played at Karonga Stadium ended in a goalless draw.
On Sunday, Mighty Tigers will host Mzuzu City Hammers at Kamuzu Stadium as Dedza Dynamos play Silver Strikers at Dedza Stadium.
Elsewhere, Bangwe All Stars will play Karonga United at Mpira Stadium as Chitipa United hosts the defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Karonga Stadium.
