On Saturday, the newly appointed Minister of Trade and Industry Mark Katsonga Phiri visited Malawi Bureau of Standards ( MBS) on familiarization tour in Blantyre.
In his welcoming remarks, the Director General of Malawi Bureau of Standards Symon Mandala gave the synopsis of the core functions MBS is undertaking under its mandate of promoting standardization and Quality assurance services and enforcing Metrology Act whose objective is to ensure consumer protection from unfair trading practices that rise from measurement, and promotion competitiveness in trading environments both domestically and internationally.
In his remarks , Minister Katsonga expressed his gratitude to have visted MBS.
He said ” I wish to state that MBS is one of the key institutions in Ministry and therefore,and my coming to appreciate its mandate and interact with management, marks the beginning of collaboration and teamwork as we work together to achieve Malawi 2063 Vision”.
The Minister further said, he was proud on various achievements MBS has accomplished amidst economic challenges Malawi is passing through.
During the visit, Katsonga was accompanied by among others Principal Secretary of Industry in the Ministry of Trade and Industry Nwazi Nthambala and Principal Secretary responsible for SMEs Francis Zhuwayo.
The delegation was later accorded an opportunity to tour the MBS premises both the current facility and new laboratory complex and offices.
